3 homemade Mexican burrito recipes

Burritos are probably one of the easiest Mexican dishes to make. It is simply a  wheat flour tortilla containing a small amount of roasted meat and vegetables  bathed in a hot sauce.

The ingredients added to the burrito can vary as much as you want. Here we show you 3 different recipes for these homemade burritos, but you can change the ingredients as you like.

1. Traditional recipe for homemade burritos

Ingredients

  • 3 tomatoes (150 g)
  • 2 cloves of garlic (2.5 g)
  • 2 red peppers (60 g)
  • 1 medium onion (40 g)
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • Tortillas (as many as needed)
  • 2 cups of mozzarella cheese (200 g)
  • Extra virgin olive oil (according to your taste)
  • 1/2 kg of minced meat (pork, beef or lamb, according to your taste)

Preparation

  1. First, peel and cut the onion, garlic cloves and tomatoes into small pieces.
  2. Pepper the minced meat to your liking.
  3. Then, in a saucepan, pour a drizzle of olive oil, the pieces of onion and garlic and add a little salt.
  4. Then, when the onion has browned a little,  add the chopped tomatoes.
  5. When the tomato has evaporated the water, add the minced meat to the pan and stir occasionally until golden brown.
  6. Then grate or cut the cheese into small pieces and  add it to the pan along with the rest of the ingredients.
  7. Finally, heat the tortillas. The amount of tortillas you need will depend on the size of the burritos you want to make.

Recommendation

When ready to serve, place the tortillas on a plate and the other ingredients in different containers so that each guest can prepare their own burrito to their liking. Of course, you can also train them yourself before serving, depending on your preference!

2. Chicken burritos

Instead of minced meat, you can also go for chicken. The recipe is just as simple!

Ingredients

  • Salt (according to your taste)
  • 1 onion (40 g)
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Tabasco sauce (according to your taste)
  • 3 chicken breasts (350 g)
  • Olive oil (according to your taste)
  • 2 peppers, one green and one red, (60 g)
  • Wheat flour tortillas (as much as needed)
  • 1 can of crushed tomatoes (200 ml)

Preparation

  1. Start by cutting the onion, peppers and garlic into small pieces.
  2. Then, brown the onion, peppers and garlic in a pan with a little olive oil.
  3. Once the vegetables are halfway through cooking, cut the chicken breasts into strips and add them to the pan with the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Then add half a can of crushed tomatoes and Tabasco, with a touch of salt.
  5. Finally, heat the tortillas in the microwave (or pan).

3. Rice burrito

Rice burritos are a little different from traditional burritos  but they are also very easy to prepare. Read on!

Ingredients

  • Salt (according to your taste)
  • 1 red pepper (30 g)
  • 1 medium tomato (40 g)
  • 1/2 medium onion (15 g)
  • 1 can of mushrooms (250 g)
  • Virgin olive oil (according to your taste)
  • 1 cup of grated cheese (250 g)
  • A couple of lettuce leaves
  • A handful of rice (one serving per person)
  • Flour tortillas

Preparation

  1. First, cook the rice as you normally would.
  2. Peel the onion and cut it into thin slices.
  3. Then wash the lettuce leaves  , tomato, pepper and mushrooms  and cut them into thin slices.
  4. Then pour a drizzle of olive oil in a saucepan and add the onion with a little salt.
  5. When the onion begins to brown,  add the tomato, mushrooms and pepper and let simmer. Stir occasionally.
  6. When the preparation is ready, add the lettuce.
  7. Finally, fill the tortillas with the rice and the sauce you made and roll them up!
