How To Decorate Your House With Mandalas

In this article, we show you how to draw and decorate your house with mandalas to give it an original, fresh, colorful and harmonious touch.

Decorating with mandalas is not only exclusive to the bohemian or oriental decorating trend. It can also be used in spaces where a touch of color is missing or where the decoration is too uniform.

These eye-catching decorations are easier to craft than you might think. It’s about giving yourself a chance and giving free rein to our imaginations.

Mandalas are designs made up of geometric shapes and symmetries in general. They are structured on the basis of models and are closely related to the inner world and human spirituality. In fact, the word means in Sanskrit, “circle”.

There are no rules for coloring them. This is why they are so popular. In addition, they bring great satisfaction during the creation process. To do them, you just need to have some basic drawing materials, for example:

  • 1 rule
  • 1 pencil
  • A compass
  • 1 sheet of paper
  • 1 eraser
  • Colored pencils, paint, markers

Instructions for drawing a mandala

1. Draw a square

The first thing you need to do is draw a square, the size you want. Keep in mind that the larger your square, the more detail you can add to your design. To start, we advise you to draw a square of 20 cm.

2. Join the vertices and the midpoints of the sides

Then you need to mark a point in the center of the sheet. Use a ruler and pencil to join the tops and the middle of the sides, (see example, half is 10cm).

3. Mark the points to draw the circles.

Then you need to draw a series of circles around this point. The easiest way to do this is to use a compass, if you don’t have one, use the ruler.

With the ruler, measure 1.5cm (you need to choose the size according to your preference), right to left, top to bottom from the center point. Then mark another point 4 cm from the center.

Make a mark with the same distance at the top, bottom, left and right of the center point. Then do the same, measuring from the center point 9 cm. Note that the sequence of points must be equidistant from the center of the drawing.

The next step is to be done with a compass, join the sequences of points in three circles. Take a look at the example above.

5. Add the first patterns of the mandalas

Don’t be afraid to let your creativity guide you in designing what best expresses your feelings. You can start from the center outwards or vice versa.

6. Repeat the patterns of the mandalas

Repeating and reusing patterns is essential to give unity to the final design. For example, if you made a circle on one of the lines, remember to draw it in the exact same place on the other lines. It will have a better effect.

7. Add new and different shapes

At this point, let creativity take precedence over everything else. Add new shapes, leaves, drops, triangles, circles, butterflies or whatever you can imagine.

8. Remove guide lines from mandalas

This will allow you to see only the dark lines of the marker.

It’s over for the drawing! Now you have to start coloring the mandala to your liking.
